The grounds of Tika'aaj contain some of  the most spectacular plants—ones which have obviously been collected and tended over a long period of time. The plants give the garden space the feel of a tropical jungle. The buildings are rustic, but they have  acquired a nice patina over time. The hotel feels like a refuge, a place apart from the outside where one can rest and rejuvenate.

José Maria (Chema) Gonzalez Cox has given Tika'aaj the atmosphere of a tropical paradise.  One feels that this is a place where it is possible to just hang out and relax.

There has always been a restaurant as part of the Tika'aaj complex, although the proprietors of the restaurant have changed. The view of the San Pedro Volcano is spectacular from the  restaurant  because the restaurant resides on the second floor of a building built away from other structures.  The lake can also be easily seen from the restaurant. The pool table downstairs used to be the only one in San Pedro, although I am not sure that it still is.
