via Chicken Bus

1. Taxi Cab to the bus terminal:

Get a taxi to take you to the Rebuli bus terminal in Zona 3: "Terminal de Autobuses Rebuli." It will cost you about 50 quetzales. Do not let the taxi driver leave you off anywhere else, especially not the terminal of buses in Zona 9 which is dangerous. This terminal has an interior courtyard where you can safely wait for the bus.

2. Guatemala City to Panajachel:

Rebuli buses all go to Panajachel so you don’t have to worry about getting on the wrong bus. At Lake Atitlán you will first stop in Solola at the top of the mountain. You want to get off at the first stop at the bottom of the mountain where the road has just become level.

3. Panajachel to San Pedro la Laguna:

Walk down the first road to the right. It will take you to the dock where the boats go to San Pedro. Locals pay about a third of what tourists pay. If you are being quoted more than 25 quetzales, you are probably hiring a private boat, say you will wait. The wait can be up to an hour. Boats stop around 5 p.m. A direct boat takes around 20 minutes. The lake often gets rough in afternoon.
